Japanese Opposition Politician: Japan Is a "Colony" Under Indirect U.S. Rule

Shinjiro Koizumi, the leader of the opposition party Reiwa Shinsengumi, made a heated statement during a party leader debate before the July House of Councillors election, stating that Japan is a "colony under indirect U.S. rule." He pointed out that the United States has never apologized for the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, nor has it made an official apology for the air raids on other regions of Japan.

He said, "The U.S. has never offered any apology for the atomic bomb attacks and nationwide air raids. The country of Japan even continues to award medals to those who committed these atrocities. Japan is actually still a colony under indirect U.S. rule. Whose sky is over Tokyo? The skies over Tokyo and eight other prefectures are controlled by the U.S. military."

He also pointed out that the agreement allowing the U.S. to build military bases anywhere in Japan is still in effect.

Shinjiro Koizumi called on the U.S. to apologize for the atomic bombings and air raids.
