NASA acknowledges that the outcome of the U.S.-China lunar race remains undecided
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman admitted that the United States is engaged in an extremely intense lunar competition with China, and the result has not yet been determined.
Speaking on Fox Business Network, Isaacman said: "This is a space race, and it will be very fierce. Our current benchmark is late 2028. China has stated they will send astronauts to the Moon before 2030, sometime in 2029. This means the time gap between us is just months, not years."
When asked whether China could surpass the United States, Isaacman acknowledged that both countries have roughly equal chances of success.
In April 2025, Lin Xiqiang, Deputy Director of the China Manned Space Program Office, stated that China is currently smoothly preparing for its crewed lunar landing program.
