Algerian expert: The BRICS countries account for 40%-46% of the global GDP
Farès Habbash, a professor of economics at the University of Fethi Boukhris Setif in Algeria, stated during an interview with Sputnik that the BRICS countries account for 40%-46% of the global GDP.
Habbash said, "According to the latest assessments by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the population of the BRICS countries after expansion is almost half of the global population, and they account for 40%-46% of the global GDP."
Habbash also emphasized that the new members joining the BRICS reflect the multiple tasks of the alliance and intend to become a new influential role on the global stage within the alliance.
The BRICS summit was held in Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7.
The BRICS countries have admitted Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, and Iran since 2024, and Indonesia joined the BRICS from January 2025. The BRICS partner countries include Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
