Mongolian and Japanese sides exchanged views on the issue of horse meat exports
Mongolia News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, August 27th, the Director of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia, Tsegel Bolorchulun, and the Director of the Industry Regulation Department, Batu Battsgaai met with Ambassador Batul Bayarsaikhan of Mongolia to Japan and Professor Dr. Osamu Kawashima, a consultant at Tokyo University of Agriculture on the 26th of this month.
During the meeting, both sides agreed that it is necessary to strengthen efficient coordination between the government and the private sector to expand Mongolia's horse meat exports to Japan. In addition, both sides exchanged opinions on specific issues such as the difficulties and challenges faced by increased horse meat exports from Mongolia to Japan, animal prevention and quarantine conditions, slaughter processing plant standards, and the legal environment.
The Japanese side stated that they will send professional experts to Mongolia's meat processing plants for technical guidance, support export products to meet Japan's hygiene and quality standards, and explore the establishment of a long-term and stable cooperation mechanism. Both sides emphasized that expanding horse meat exports will not only promote the development of trade and economic relations between Mongolia and Japan, but also promote the transformation of Mongolia's livestock industry towards high-value-added products, significantly increasing herders' income.
