Mongolian side will jointly increase green housing financing with Japan
Montsame, Ulaanbaatar, July 31st - The Mongolian Mortgage Loan Company and the Japan Housing Finance Agency signed a technical assistance cooperation agreement aimed at increasing financing for sustainable and green housing in Mongolia, and developing a bond market for target markets.
This agreement was reached within the framework of a memorandum signed by the two organizations in 2019, which is valid from August 1st this year to January 30th, 2026. Within the framework of the memorandum, sustainable development policies will be formulated, bonds for target markets will be issued, internal capacity will be strengthened, and transition plans in line with international standards will be developed. In addition, training programs will be implemented in the fields of sustainable finance, green housing, reporting standards, and e-transformation.
Shigeru Takayama, President and Board Member of the Japan Housing Finance Agency, said, "The Japan Housing Finance Agency has good experience in successfully implementing energy-saving, socially oriented housing loan projects. We will not only establish a sustainable housing finance system in Mongolia, but also act as a bridge between the two governments, and are committed to expanding policy and financing cooperation. Although introducing new sustainable housing technologies may initially be challenging, I believe that a partnership based on a solid, long-term, and firm collaboration will succeed."
Bat-Erden Gontulga, Executive Director of the Mongolian Mortgage Loan Company, said, "This agreement holds significant historical importance for promoting the development of green building and financing in our country and improving the level of sustainable development. Through this cooperation, green standards will be introduced into the construction industry in our country, enhancing the quality and accessibility of buildings, and creating new opportunities for green housing financing and green securities in domestic banks and financial sectors. I am confident that bilateral cooperation will continue to expand, and many successful projects will be implemented on the basis of mutual trust between the two countries."
The cooperation outlined in the agreement is being implemented within the regional cooperation framework of the Asian Mortgage Secondary Market Association (ASMMA), and both the Mongolian Mortgage Loan Company and the Japan Housing Finance Agency are members of the association.
