July 17, 2025 Situation in Syria:
According to Al Jazeera, the Syrian HTS armed group re-entered Suweida city this morning and currently controls about half of the city, with street fighting continuing between the group and Druze militias.
(Latest updates on villages such as Tarah, Aslaha, and Kanakir: By the 16th, the Syrian HTS armed group had fully controlled the aforementioned areas. Therefore, the areas marked in yellow yesterday are now overlaid on the green areas on the map).
On the other hand, the Jaramana district, which has a majority Druze population (located in the eastern part of Damascus, Syria), has seen protests against the HTS regime. The area may witness a recurrence of the armed rebellion that occurred at the end of April.
As of 24:00 on July 16, 2025, the situation in southern Syria:
After several hours of fierce fighting, the leader of the Druze faction decided to reach an agreement with the HTS-led Syrian government, allowing the latter to enter Suweida city (meaning that the HTS forces have completely controlled Suweida city; Video 2 shows the entry of these forces into the city). In the past few hours, there have been multiple atrocities committed by militants (should refer to HTS armed personnel) against civilians in the city. Currently, HTS forces have deployed around Suweida city and are trying to continue their advance by attacking the Druze militias in Attil and Kanawat towns.
On the other hand, HTS forces have recaptured the town of Dakir and launched an attack on the town of Small Sawara. Although some maps show that the HTS-controlled area has expanded, the towns of Al-Arka, Shehab, and Al-Kalaya are still under the control of Druze militias.
