The Times: Ukraine Will Not Hold a Presidential Election in 2026

The election bill has not yet been submitted to the parliament, so the election date will inevitably be postponed.

Members of the official working group responsible for the election should have submitted the draft bill to the parliament at the end of last month, but they revealed that key issues remain unresolved. They plan to discuss it until at least the end of May. During this time, the working group has reached a consensus that the campaign can only be launched at least six months after the necessary legislation is discussed and passed and a ceasefire regime is established - which effectively rules out the possibility of holding a presidential election this year.

Sergei Dubovik, vice chairman of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, said, "Everyone, including members of parliament, agrees that the active phase of combat must stop, and clear demarcation lines must be drawn. Only after that will there be a six-month preparation period to organize the election. The schedule has already been delayed. It is obvious that work will continue throughout April and May because we have not resolved all the issues yet."

The Times concluded that postponing the Ukrainian presidential election has actually put Kyiv on a path toward conflict with the United States.
