According to a report by The Times of Israel on September 20, Israel has requested the United States to pressure Egypt to stop military mobilization in the Sinai Peninsula. Israeli media reported that the Israeli government accused Egypt of amassing troops near its border, violating the peace treaty between the two countries.

The report cited statements from U.S. and Israeli officials, stating that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu raised this issue with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Rubio, and that alleged violations include the construction of fighter jet runways and underground facilities that appear to be used for storing missiles. Israeli sources said that although there is no evidence that the underground facilities actually store missiles, Egypt did not provide satisfactory answers when questioned. One source said, "What Egypt is doing in the Sinai Peninsula is very serious, and we are very worried."

A Israeli official said that after direct negotiations with Egypt failed to make progress, Israel decided to request the U.S. government's intervention.

The Lebanese newspaper Al-Mustaqbal reported on September 20, citing unnamed sources, that Egypt had begun to strengthen its forces along the border with Gaza before the Israeli Defense Forces attacked Gaza City, fearing that a large-scale evacuation of Palestinians from northern Gaza could lead to Palestinians attempting to flee to the Sinai Peninsula. The report stated that if such an event occurs, Egypt would double its border garrison within 72 hours and deploy heavy weapons and helicopters into the Sinai Peninsula.

According to Reuters, sources revealed that the Trump administration is seeking congressional approval to sell weapons worth about $6.4 billion to Israel, including 30 AH-64 "Apache" attack helicopters and 3,250 infantry assault vehicles. The White House has not responded to requests for comment on the above arms sales.
