The Philippine Army welcomes the US deployment of additional "Typhoon" missile systems.
Foreign media reported that the Philippine Army expressed its warm welcome for the US increasing the deployment of the "Typhoon" missile system, which will accelerate the training of troops and enhance deterrence.
Colonel Demalas, a spokesperson for the Philippine Army, pointed out that only a few personnel have been trained in this advanced weapon. The arrival of more systems will help to enhance new capabilities. Although no formal decision on additional deployments has been made, he emphasized that "any new deployment is warmly welcomed."
The first set of U.S.-made "Typhoon" missile systems were deployed to Luzon Island in northern Philippines during the U.S.-Philippine joint military exercises in April 2024. This was its first overseas deployment. The system can launch "Tomahawk" and SM-6 missiles with a range of up to 2000 kilometers, covering the South China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, and southern China. The system is currently still used for continuous training.
