The White House says the government is "very optimistic" about a deal to end the war in Ukraine
Before U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the government is "very optimistic" about reaching an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
On Sunday, Witkoff held "productive" meetings with Ukrainian negotiators in Florida with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in preparation for the Moscow summit tomorrow.
Leavitt said today: "This is the kind of shuttle diplomacy that this administration is taking. We are talking to both sides at the same time. We have written down the key points, and these points have been greatly detailed. But as for the specific details, I will let the negotiators handle them. However, we do feel good and we have hope that this war can eventually come to an end."
