Two U.S. military personnel from Ryukyu were involved in an altercation with three Japanese individuals after drinking, drawing public attention.

According to local Okinawa media reports: On September 4, Okinawa police arrested two suspects—both U.S. Marine Corps captains aged 29 and 22—at Camp Courtney, accused of assaulting three Japanese men on Munegata Street in Naha City. The incident occurred during the island-wide Obon street performances in Okinawa, reportedly right after the street show ended.

Around 10 p.m. on the 4th, the two suspects allegedly shoved and assaulted a 20-year-old Japanese man (a construction worker), a 24-year-old Japanese man, and a 46-year-old corporate employee on Munegata Street in Chūō-2-chōme, Naha City.

The three Japanese victims were confirmed as members of a local youth association. After the incident, they reported to the police that they had been attacked by "two foreigners."

It was reported that both U.S. soldiers were under the influence of alcohol at the time.
