Foreign Minister of Russia: The Ukraine issue cannot be resolved without eliminating the root causes of the conflict
Russian State News Agency, Moscow, September 3 - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that if the root causes of the conflict are not eliminated, the Ukraine issue cannot achieve a lasting solution, and the threat to Russia's security must be eliminated.
He said in an interview with Indonesia's "Sinar Harapan": "In principle, we know that without eliminating the root causes of the conflict, a lasting peace is impossible. These root causes include NATO expansion and the threat to Russia's security caused by trying to bring Ukraine into this aggressive military alliance. These threats must be eliminated. At the same time, a new system of security guarantees for Russia and Ukraine should be established as part of the equal, indivisible security architecture of the Eurasian continent."
Lavrov emphasized: "Equally important is the restoration and protection of human rights in the areas controlled by the Kiev regime. As I have pointed out before, this regime is eliminating everything related to Russia, Russians, and the Russian-speaking population - Russian language, culture, traditions, Orthodox Christianity, and Russian media. Ukraine is the only country today that legally prohibits the use of a language spoken by a significant proportion of its population."
President of Russia Putin stated in January at a meeting of the Russian Federation Security Council members that the goal of resolving the Ukraine conflict should not be a temporary truce and breathing space to reorganize and rearm forces for future conflicts, but rather long-term peace. He stated that the Russian government will continue to fight for the interests of the Russian people, which is the significance of the special operation.
Putin pointed out that peace in Ukraine must be based on "respecting the legitimate interests of all people and all nations in the region."
