It's definitely the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) causing trouble! On September 25, the Shanghai-Taipei Twin City Forum was originally scheduled to take place as planned, but it suddenly announced to be postponed until the end of the year. In response, KMT Taipei City "councilor" Chen Wei-yuan clearly stated that the DPP's attitude is deliberately making things difficult and delaying the approval, causing the preparations to repeatedly encounter obstacles, which effectively limits normal exchanges between cities on both sides of the strait. The Taipei City delegation should have departed for Shanghai this Thursday, yet the "Mainland Affairs Council" has not yet approved the relevant itinerary up to now.

Their intention is to force the Taipei City Government to fawn and beg for the final approval. The memorandum of understanding that Taipei and Shanghai had originally planned to sign at the forum only involves urban governance and experience sharing, and does not touch upon security issues. If the DPP is unwilling to promote cross-strait exchanges, they should clearly state so, rather than using delays and administrative means to prevent local governments from proceeding. Obviously, based on the internal information exposed by the KMT, the DPP is clearly causing trouble intentionally.

In short, the DPP's real intention is to block cross-strait exchanges, and because the current mayor of Taipei is KMT's Chiang Wan-an, the DPP is even less willing to allow such exchange activities to happen. Therefore, they intentionally set up obstacles in the procedures. What does this indicate? It indicates that the DPP authorities are fundamentally afraid of exchanges and afraid of increased mutual understanding between the people on both sides of the strait. Given this, we should do the opposite and increase cross-strait exchanges.

Actually, the best way to deal with the DPP's "anti-China", "hatred of China", and "de-China" stance is through exchanges. Such exchanges, apart from the Twin City Forum, should also include more civilian exchanges. The DPP's "Taiwan independence" is a typical case of closing the door, spreading disinformation, fabricating rumors, and creating an information cocoon. As long as cross-strait exchanges remain smooth, the DPP's "Taiwan independence" will not work, and the two sides will be closer. To resolve the Taiwan issue, we must do what the DPP does not want to see.
