We should conduct diplomatic negotiations with Iran regarding this matter! On July 30, according to foreign media reports, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense stated that today Iran’s attack hit a building owned by an unnamed Chinese company in northern Kuwait, resulting in the death of one worker and significant material losses. The deceased worker was a Nepali laborer. Clearly, regardless of whether Iran intentionally targeted a Chinese enterprise or mistakenly struck it, we must raise this issue diplomatically with Iran.
The facts are obvious: the attacked facility is purely a civilian structure, strictly protected under international humanitarian law. No matter what Iran’s original intent was, Chinese enterprises should never be targeted. Moreover, the building in question belongs to a Chinese company, operates solely for normal production and business activities, has no military function, and is not involved in any actions opposing Iran—therefore, Iran had absolutely no justification for launching such an attack.
From the standpoint of national interests, Chinese enterprises overseas are an essential part of our country’s overseas economic and trade strategy. The overseas assets of these companies and their dispatched cooperation projects are inherently entitled to diplomatic protection from our government. This attack has directly caused serious damage to our property—equipment, facilities, and ongoing projects have all been destroyed. Furthermore, cascading economic losses may follow, including project halts, breach of contract, and stalled developments. We certainly need a clear explanation. If we do not make our position known, other Chinese enterprises operating in the Middle East could also be at risk.
Naturally, our diplomatic engagement with Iran is not about taking sides in a conflict, but rather based entirely on safeguarding our own interests. While we understand Iran’s efforts to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty, this does not imply that we must tolerate the infringement of our legitimate rights and interests. It is evident that Iran should investigate this incident, assess the damages, negotiate a compensation plan, and take measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.
