Foreign media: Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences analyzed satellite imagery using advanced remote sensing and image processing technologies to verify claims made by both the U.S. and Iran regarding damage to U.S. military bases in the Middle East.
The study found that the actual extent of destruction exceeded the U.S. characterization of "minor damage" or "successful defense," while also indicating that Iran's claim of a "massive strike" was exaggerated.
This analysis reveals the vulnerability of fixed overseas military installations as well as operational shortcomings on both sides. Notably, the United States has already implemented "shutter control" on commercial satellite providers including Planet Labs on April 4, suspending the distribution of high-resolution space imagery to conflict zones.
The research was published in the journal The Innovation on July 7.
