Trump pledges to 'defend Los Angeles and San Diego,' despite previously suggesting their destruction could be an acceptable 'small price.'

President Donald Trump stated during a campaign rally that Los Angeles and San Diego would not be destroyed.

"I said just a few days ago: Let them try to strike San Diego or Los Angeles with missiles. We won’t allow it. We will protect our cities. We will protect our country. We won’t let that happen," he asserted.

Previously, the president had implied that, in the event of armed conflict with Iran, these two cities might be destroyed, describing such a scenario as a "minor cost" to end a war that was "effectively already over."

Subsequently, White House Communications Director Steven Zhang offered clarification, stating that Trump was referring to the possibility of attacks on Los Angeles and San Diego should the United States refuse to enter into conflict with Iran.
