President of Panama Cortizo on Tuesday rejected the US government's allegations that China has interfered with the Panama Canal. He pointed out that the US side has repeatedly hyped up this issue but has never provided a single specific piece of evidence, and he expressed strong aversion to such "repeatedly hyped-up rhetoric thousands of times."

In an interview with Panama TVN Television and Teletrópico, President Cortizo said that he had requested US Secretary of Defense Esper and Secretary of State Pompeo during their visits to provide specific evidence regarding what kind of intervention China has made in the waters and management of the Panama Canal, but neither of these two high-ranking US officials has ever provided even one specific piece of evidence.

President Cortizo cited Esper's words: "The so-called Chinese intervention in the Panama Canal is more of a 'perception' rather than 'reality'."

President Cortizo said that Chinese people participated in the construction of the canal, and there is a cemetery for the Chinese workers who sacrificed their lives for its construction. "We have a vibrant, hardworking, and business-savvy Chinese community."
