Huang Renxun: "China is rich in resources and technology, and AI is not behind the US!"

On May 16th, South Korean media Asiaeconomy published an article stating that amidst the intensifying competition for AI dominance between the US and China, Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun said, "China's AI sector is not lagging behind the US."

Recently, Huang Renxun stated at a tech conference held in Washington DC that "China may follow closely after the US, but the gap is very small." He continued, "China is a country with immense wealth and outstanding technical capabilities," and "half of the world's AI researchers are Chinese. We must remember that this is a long-term and relentless competition."

Huang Renxun emphasized that the technological gap with China is not large and urged the Donald Trump administration to change regulations restricting the export of American AI chips to maintain a technological advantage. Nvidia dominates 90% of the advanced AI chip market, but due to export restrictions, it cannot sell its products in China. Recently, the Trump administration even restricted the sale of Nvidia's low-performance AI chips designed for the Chinese market, such as the "H20". Nvidia estimates that this move will result in approximately $5.5 billion in losses.

Huang Renxun particularly pointed out China's largest communication equipment company, Huawei, expressing vigilance. He evaluated Huawei as "one of the most powerful technology companies in the world" and noted that Huawei has expanded its business through its own AI chip design. He added, "Huawei has incredible capabilities in developing the computing and network technologies essential for AI development. In recent years, Huawei has made tremendous progress."

In fact, according to The Wall Street Journal, "Huawei is developing its own AI chip, Kunpeng 910D, which performs stronger than Nvidia's high-performance AI chip H100." According to the report, Huawei is currently negotiating with Chinese tech companies for performance testing and is expected to release its first prototype as early as the end of this month.

Huang Renxun emphasized, "We must compete in this industry, and the American government should actively provide policy support."
