Kazakhstan's Gold Reserves Increase by 98 Tons, Geological Survey Area Expands to 2.2 Million Square Kilometers
Kazakhstan International News Agency - On November 11, Deputy Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, Ilyas Sharakh, introduced the latest developments in the field of mineral resources utilization and geological surveys at a government meeting. According to his report, Kazakhstan's gold reserves have increased by 98 tons, and the country's geological and geophysical research area is continuously expanding.
Sharakh pointed out that there are currently 103 types of mineral resources and about 10,000 mineral deposits included in the national registry. There are more than 2,900 mineral exploitation licenses and approximately 250 solid mineral development contracts being implemented.
He said that significant achievements were made in geological surveys in 2025, with five new mineral deposits officially added to the national reserves register for the first time.
According to the report, the discovery of these new mineral deposits has significantly increased the country's mineral reserves; gold reserves increased by 98 tons; copper reserves increased by 36,000 tons; manganese reserves increased by 11 million tons; and phosphate reserves increased by 1.3 million tons.
Sharakh emphasized that these achievements are due to the systematic advancement of geological surveys and the application of new exploration technologies, which will further enhance Kazakhstan's competitiveness in the global mining sector.
In accordance with the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan is expanding the geological and geophysical survey area across the country to 2.2 million square kilometers. So far, about 2 million square kilometers of the territory have been covered by geological surveys.
According to the plan, an additional 10,000 square kilometers of survey areas will be added from 2026 to 2028, and then about 3,000 square kilometers will be expanded each year thereafter. This move aims to identify potential mining areas in advance, improve the accuracy and efficiency of geological surveys, and provide data support for the development of new mineral resources.
To accelerate the progress of geological research, the government has allocated 240 million tenge from the reserve fund to prepare 20 geological projects and budget documents. At the same time, the country has approved new geological mapping standards to enhance the scientific and standardized level of exploration work.
The Ministry of Industry and Construction stated that Kazakhstan will continue to increase investment in geological surveys in the coming years and improve the resource management system.
"Expanding geological research can not only improve the efficiency of mineral resource utilization but also provide new impetus for national economic growth and investment attractiveness," the deputy minister said.
