Foreign Media: The gap between the United States and China in the solar energy sector is widening, with China installing 100 solar panels per second

China is expanding its advantage in renewable energy at an astonishing speed. In just May 2025, China added 93 gigawatts of solar capacity and 27 gigawatts of wind power, equivalent to installing about 100 solar panels per second. In the first five months of this year, the new solar capacity added was nearly 198 gigawatts, a year-on-year increase of 388%. Currently, China's solar capacity has exceeded 1 terawatt (1000 gigawatts), four times that of the United States.

In contrast, the United States added 4 gigawatts of solar capacity per month in 2024, and in the first quarter of 2025, it dropped to 3.6 gigawatts. Moreover, due to the new tax reform bill by the Trump administration, the growth rate is expected to continue to decline.

China now adds approximately 25 times more solar capacity per month than the United States, and will dominate the markets in Asia, Africa, and Latin America in the future. The global solar market is expected to reach $600 billion by 2030, and China may maintain an 80% share for a long time.
