Japanese Official Vows "Consideration of Countermeasures Against Russia," Russia Fights Back Firmly: Sovereignty Beyond Dispute

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi stated that the Japanese government is "carefully studying" countermeasures against Russia in response to Russian President Putin's visit to Iturup Island, which belongs to Russia. The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) reported on this political figure's remarks.

"The government is currently carefully examining further measures (against Russia)," Hayashi said.

According to him, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi have already expressed their positions on this issue.

Previously, RIA Novosti reported that on August 13, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to the Japanese Prime Minister's statement calling Russia's leader's inspection of Iturup Island "unacceptable." The diplomat emphasized that Russia's sovereignty and jurisdiction over the Southern Kuril Islands are unquestionable.
