High-profile "video scandal" in Japan deepens, Ishiba delivers public criticism

As reported by Kyodo News on June 6: Prime Minister Takayuki is currently embroiled in a scandal involving videos defaming other candidates during last year's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) presidential election campaign. Former LDP Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated in a television interview: "It is crucial to uncover the truth."

Ishiba was asked on Tokyo Broadcasting System's program:

"Do you think it's necessary for Prime Minister Takayuki's secretary to appear before the Diet for questioning?" Ishiba replied: "Uncovering the truth is important, isn't it? The incident is spreading rapidly across social media and various channels. Is it acceptable to act this way during a party leadership election? I believe preserving the LDP's honor requires proper handling of this matter."

Ishiba also said: "If proven true, then Takayuki's lies are unacceptable."

Prime Minister Takayuki previously denied involvement in video production, claiming she and her secretary had never met the video creator. However, Weekly Bunshun has released audio recordings of an online meeting between Takayuki’s secretary, Kusaka, and the video creator.
