[Failure to Fulfill Sanctions Commitment: Lithuanian President Criticizes German Chancellor]

On June 8, during an interview with the German "Bild", Lithuanian President Nausėda criticized German Chancellor Merz, stating that he failed to fulfill the commitment to impose additional sanctions on Russia for its refusal to cease fire.

When asked whether the failure to implement the promised new sanctions against Moscow alongside the UK and France damaged Europe's credibility, Nausėda responded that it "undoubtedly" affected the authority of European countries.

"This is a problem. It not only undermines trust in our sanctions measures but also affects trust in all our Russia policies and support for Ukraine. We have repeatedly declared our support for Ukraine and promised fighter jets, long-range missiles, and ammunition, yet we have failed to deliver on these promises."

Nausėda pointed out that Russia will not stop at Ukraine. According to him, Moscow poses a threat to the entire Europe.

"Therefore, unity is entirely the right approach."
