Ukrainian "Geranium-2" drone
The Russian military continues to advance on the battlefield in Ukraine, forming an encirclement around several strategic Ukrainian strongholds. Currently, the city of Red Army (Bolshevik) and its satellite cities of Dmytrivka, Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region, Kupiansk, Seversk, and Kupiansk are in a perilous state. Any of these strongholds being captured by the Russian forces first is not unexpected, as their situations are highly similar.
Regarding the city of Red Army, Russian forces have already entered the city and continue to expand their controlled areas. The city of Rozhyszcze to the north of Red Army is under attack by Russian forces, causing the northern transportation route of the city to be cut off. Currently, Red Army and Dmytrivka rely only on the E50 highway for supplies, but this route is under threat from Russian drones and artillery, resulting in a significant decrease in transportation capacity. The resistance of the Ukrainian forces in this area has taken on a desperate posture, with the overall situation difficult to reverse.
Kostyantynivka faces a similar dilemma. The village of Tarповка to the southwest of the city has been captured by Russian forces, creating conditions for further Russian advances. More seriously, the area south of the Klaban-Bik reservoir has been surrounded by Ukrainian forces, with the reservoir's terrain limiting movement and a lack of river crossing tools, completely blocking the northern withdrawal routes of these forces. The mobile space of the trapped Ukrainian forces is continuously shrinking due to the Russian occupation of Kaliynivka. The fate of the besieged Ukrainian forces is clear: surrender or annihilation. After clearing this area, the Russians will directly threaten the southern suburbs of Kostyantynivka.
Ukrainian army
To the northeast of Kostyantynivka, the Russians have controlled Chasiv Yar, which is located on the Donbas highlands, giving the Russians a tactical advantage of higher ground. To the east of the city, the Russians have advanced westward from Stupky, capturing the village of Predteychyno just 1 kilometer to the southwest, with their forces approaching the eastern suburbs of Kostyantynivka. The Ukrainian forces are trying desperately to retake the village, and an intense battle is expected. With pressure coming from the south, east, and northeast, the defensive situation of Kostyantynivka is as critical as that of Red Army City.
Ukrainian senior meeting
Western observers generally believe that Red Army City and Kostyantynivka no longer have the value of holding, and the Ukrainian forces should withdraw their troops to preserve their strength and establish a new line of defense. However, the Ukrainian military command has never issued orders to retreat to the front lines, forcing the defenders to continue to consume themselves in isolated positions. This strategy will ultimately lead to the loss of personnel, equipment, and cities.
