Foreign media: The EU has stated that, facing an expanding trade deficit due to a significant increase in Chinese exports, it may take emergency trade protection measures, including raising tariffs or imposing import quotas.
EU trade official Denis Redonnet said that if there is an "import surge" in certain sectors, implementing safeguard measures could be reasonable and necessary.
The EU and China are currently trying to ease trade tensions, but Brussels believes that structural adjustments in China's economic model are unlikely to happen in the short term. Therefore, they hope to see improvement in trade imbalances before October; otherwise, they will consider restricting measures in specific industries.
The EU is concerned about the large-scale export of Chinese goods disrupting the European market and is preparing to protect domestic industries through trade policies.
