Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov: Russia is developing a response to the EU's multiple Schengen visa decisions
At 10 p.m. Moscow time on December 29, 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov answered questions in an interview with the Russian state news agency:
The response to this unfriendly step (the EU banning the issuance of multiple Schengen visas to Russians) is being formulated according to our national interests. The decision will be announced in a timely manner.
Lavrov added:
So far, citizens of EU countries still benefit from the bilateral agreement signed between Russia and the EU in 2006, which simplifies the visa issuance process. In particular, this agreement allows for multiple-entry visas valid for up to five years. Although the EU authorities terminated this agreement in 2022, Russia continues to implement this procedure. Additionally, all citizens of EU countries can still access Russia through a single e-visa, which can be issued unlimited times in a simplified way.
