The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the New South Wales government will announce today its proposed boundaries for the iconic Koala National Park and immediately halt logging activities in 176,000 hectares of New South Wales forest near Coffs Harbour.

The creation of the Koala National Park will fulfill a promise made by former Labor leader Luke Foley 10 years ago, which has been mentioned in every election since. This announcement comes two years after the March 2023 election, during which logging activities have continued through a lengthy assessment and consultation process.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns stated that the government will allocate an additional $60 million to the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) to establish the park. This is on top of the $80 million already allocated in 2023, with an additional $6 million to promote tourism in the region.

"Koalas are at risk of extinction."

Koala???? is also a symbol of Australia, but with social development, it faces a severe living environment.
