European sports equipment retail giant considers shifting production to China

According to a report by the UK's Financial Times on August 5, one of the world's largest sports equipment retailers, Intersport, is considering shifting its production to China and significantly increasing the share of its own brand products purchased in China.

Under the impact of U.S. President Trump's tariff policies, sports equipment manufacturers such as Adidas and Nike are moving their production lines to countries with lower tariff rates. However, Tom Foley, the new CEO of Intersport, pointed out that this production shift may "put production pressure on markets that would not otherwise bear it."

Intersport's main sourcing markets include China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Foley said, "Now we don't have to move production from Bangladesh to China, but we can do so."
