Houthi rebels announce ban on British ships passing through the Red Sea.

Representatives of the Houthi rebels told Russia's Sputnik News Agency that the Shiite "Ansar Allah" military and political movement governing northern Yemen (Houthi rebels) have banned British ships from passing through the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea after the UK expressed its plan to participate in US strikes against provinces controlled by Houthi fighters.

Sources pointed out, "The Houthi movement plans to ban British merchant ships from passing through the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden, just as the Houthi rebels have acted against American and Israeli ships. Such measures are a response to the UK's statement about participating in air strikes on Yemen alongside the US."

He stated that the ban on British ships "will severely affect the UK's economy."

After the US began bombing provinces controlled by the Houthis in mid-March, the Houthi rebels intensified their shelling of Israel.
