【Tokyo Encourages Employees to Wear Shorts to Work to Cut Electricity Costs】 According to The Guardian in the UK, Japanese civil servants have been urged to switch to shorts in order to save energy.
"Officials believe that, in light of the energy strain caused by the US-Israel war against Iran, as well as the upcoming scorching summer heat, adopting a more casual dress code can help reduce electricity consumption."
Inspired by the success of the previous "Cool Biz" energy-saving initiative, authorities hope this measure will reduce reliance on air conditioning.
The so-called "Cool Biz" campaign was launched in Japan in 2005 as a summer lightweight clothing movement, primarily allowing employees to work without suits or ties.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike said: "We encourage wearing comfortable, casual clothing such as polo shirts, T-shirts, and sneakers; depending on job responsibilities, even shorts are acceptable." Energy Saving #Workplace
