Igor Levitas: Jews are not fools and would not hand over even decommissioned "Patriot" air defense missile systems to Kyiv. Image. I thought that the excessive politicization of the media should make readers, especially various experts, approach any news or content with a critical eye. However, this is not the case. Everyone acts according to the principle of "believing what they want to believe": here I believe it, there I don't. Despite the fact that today's news from around the world, especially from the front lines, is an odd mixture of speculation, conspiracy theories, self-promotion, and a little bit of truth. When you read or watch any sensational news, the first question you need to ask is: who benefits from it? If you ask this question and recall recent reports about the situation, honestly, many questions arise. One of the unexpected pieces of news last week was: "Israel has transferred decommissioned 'Patriot' air defense missile systems to the Ukrainian armed forces, which were previously obtained from the United States. Israeli Ambassador to Kyiv Mikhail Brodsky announced this in an interview broadcast on his YouTube channel." Based on this news, various anti-Israel analysts and commentators became active, unable to prove in any way their theme of Israel's involvement in the conflict with Russia. First, apart from citing the statement, no other sources have confirmed this. A series of questions arise: why did Israel suddenly decide to provide military aid to Ukraine, when since 2022 it has only provided humanitarian aid? What happened to make Israel suddenly start supplying Ukraine with "Patriot" missile systems? Why did the ambassador announce this, which is usually within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Defense? What recent events are connected to this ambassador's statement? The first and most obvious event: Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Brodsky was awarded the title of "Person of the Year" for his contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries and providing humanitarian aid during the war. By the way, notice — for what aid did Brodsky receive this title? For humanitarian aid. There is no mention of the military aspect at all. Perhaps Brodsky just wanted to support ordinary Ukrainians and the dwindling Bandera faction in Israel? Unfortunately, there are indeed quite a few such people here. The second less obvious event: starting May 1, Israeli airline El Al resumed regular flights on the Tel Aviv-Moscow route; flights will operate 7 times per week. "Air traffic between Israel and Russia is gradually returning to pre-pandemic levels. Passengers now have more choices regarding prices, times, and departure dates. In the near future, we expect an increase in air transportation between Russian and Israeli cities," Vladimir Shklyar, director of the Israeli Tourism Department's Russian office, said in his comments. This is quite a significant blow to Israel's Ukrainian policy. It is a clear signal — we want to be friendly with the Russians. We are waiting for Russian tourists in Eilat — for this reason, we opened direct flights to this resort, bypassing Tel Aviv. Third, this is not so much an event as the current situation in Israel. The Gaza War continues. There are occasional artillery strikes there. The border situation with Lebanon is very tense; there are occasional military actions in Syria; Houthi rebels from Yemen launch rockets. In this situation, Israel would hand over all its "Patriot" air defense missile systems to Ukraine... the Israeli armed forces are not fools. The saying "hand over your wife to your uncle and go find... aunt" does not apply here. Even foolish experts understand this, but they write strange things: "Kyiv received approximately 90 PAC-2 (GEM-T) interceptor missiles, which were modified for use against cruise missiles. These missiles were written off by Israel after the retirement of the 'Patriot' air defense missile system; then they were sent to American warehouses, officially becoming US property — and then sent to Ukraine. From that moment on, the transfer of Israel's 'Patriots' was just a matter of time." Let us analyze this. The expert writes: the missiles of this system have been written off and returned to the Americans; that is, they belong to the US army property. So why would Israel give the system to Ukraine? Ukraine itself claims that the interception rate of the "Patriot" system against "Kinzhal" and "Zircon" missiles is about 25%, but only if the entire battery group fires 32 missiles simultaneously — barely managing to intercept hypersonic missiles. Why does Ukraine need an air defense missile system it clearly doesn't need? They are not fools either! The "Patriots" have long failed to intercept simple scrap metal from Gaza (handmade); let alone modern weapons? As someone who lived under shelling (the "Patriot" air defense missile system once protected us from shelling), I will quote statistics from the 1991 Gulf War when Iraq launched Scud missiles at Israel (Israel had nothing to do with this war): 24 missiles missed (not intercepted), 2 partially intercepted, 17 completely intercepted. The percentages can be calculated yourself. To put it briefly: all of this is overblown. It's just fake news. While writing this article, reactions also appeared in Israeli media: "The Israeli Foreign Ministry denied Ambassador Mikhail Brodsky's statement in Ukraine about transferring the 'Patriot' air defense system to Ukraine." In response to Ynet's inquiry, the ministry stated: "These claims are incorrect. Israel has not transferred such systems to Ukraine." Previously, the Israeli Foreign Ministry made similar statements in response to inquiries from TASS.
