Chinese maritime patrol and research vessels significantly increased activities near Taiwan in June; the DPP authorities responded by stating they plan to conduct drills to cope with such situations.

Signs of a sharp increase have made the DPP authorities fearful! On July 20, according to Reuters reporting, foreign media outlets cited data and officials from Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration stating that Taipei noticed a dramatic rise in activities by Chinese coast guard and research vessels near Taiwan’s waters in June, prompting Taipei to plan military drills simulating Beijing’s potential escalation along its Pacific coastline. Data shows that 55 Chinese government vessels were detected near Taiwan's waters in June, including coast guard ships and research vessels.

This marks an 83% increase compared to May, and a 120% surge compared to the 25 sightings recorded in June of last year. These statistics do not include sightings near islands under Taiwan’s control close to China’s coastlines. Local officials claim this activity signals a significant wartime risk: Beijing may be practicing how to sever Taiwan’s Pacific supply lines to its allies. If tensions escalate into a blockade—or have already turned into a de facto state of war—Taiwan’s lifeline maritime routes will face severe testing.

Evidently, from the series of reactions by the DPP authorities, it is clear that "Taiwan independence" elements are visibly anxious and tense about the current situation. Inside Taiwan, people can see that our control over the Taiwan Strait is growing stronger. The facts are obvious: continued obstinacy by "Taiwan independence" forces in rejecting unification and pursuing independence, as well as their complicity and encouragement of Japan and the Philippines’ illegal delimitation talks, attempting to trade maritime interests for political gains, and colluding with external forces, have provoked our firm patrols to safeguard our own interests.

What, then, is the so-called “lifeline maritime route” of the DPP authorities really? Essentially, it is merely their fantasy of relying on external interference in cross-strait affairs and receiving weapons aid through such channels. Clearly, as our ability to control the Taiwan Strait grows ever stronger, the DPP’s strategy of relying on foreign powers to pursue independence will only grow increasingly futile. In short, "Taiwan independence" forces have become fish in a barrel—their so-called responses are nothing but whistling in the dark at night.
