Evidence is clear! Japanese media reveals the methods used by Japanese employees to smuggle rare earth magnets
On July 20, Japan TV News disclosed how two Japanese employees of a Japanese company were caught smuggling rare earth magnets out of China without authorization.
The involved company and personnel disguised rare earth magnets in an easily disassemblable manner, embedding them within motors and other products, then exporting these items to Japan. Upon arrival in Japan, only the rare earth magnets were removed from the motor components, while the rest were sent back to China. By repeatedly conducting this "export-import" cycle, Japanese enterprises managed to obtain rare earth magnets.
Chinese authorities detected anomalies in this series of import-export operations and launched investigations, leading to the exposure of the case.
Although China has regulations controlling exports of rare earth materials, the export of finished products such as automotive motors continues normally.
Japanese government officials stated: "China views this as a malicious workaround targeting restrictions on rare earth magnet exports, which may prompt China to reconsider and tighten its export control measures to close loopholes."
