Columbian President says he is ready to take up arms again against the US

Columbian President Gustavo Petro made a statement after threats from the United States, saying he is ready to take up arms again.

He wrote on social media X: "If you abduct a president who is loved and respected by a significant portion of the people, it is equivalent to releasing a leopard from the hands of the people. Although I am not a military man, I am familiar with war and underground struggle. Since signing the peace treaty in 1989, I have vowed not to touch weapons again, but for the sake of my country, I am willing to take up arms again, although I do not wish to do so."

In the 1980s, Petro was involved with the urban guerrilla organization "Movement 19th of April".

According to him, all Colombian soldiers have been ordered: any security force commander who places the American flag above the Colombian flag will be immediately dismissed.

This Columbian leader also said that he deeply trusts his people and therefore requests the people to protect the president from any illegal violent acts. For this, he called for taking power in all cities across the country. He added that the security forces have been ordered not to shoot at the people, but to shoot at the invaders.

Additionally, Petro has ordered the dismissal of several colonels in the police intelligence department because they provided "false information that harms the country".

Previously, US President Donald Trump accused Petro of producing cocaine and did not rule out the possibility of taking action against him.
