Foreign media: The Trump administration is drafting an order to ban the import of foreign energy inverters, citing concerns that China might use these devices to disrupt power supply.

This rule, formulated by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), applies to new foreign inverters and could be issued as early as this year, though it may still be revised or postponed. This move was prompted by the European Union's May decision to prohibit Chinese-made inverters from entering publicly funded energy projects.

China is the world's largest producer of inverters, with Suntech Power and Huawei holding dominant positions. The U.S. Department of Defense has already prohibited the procurement of solar photovoltaic cells, modules, and inverters manufactured by "foreign entities of concern," including China, under the fiscal year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act.

Previously, the White House National Energy Leadership Council had instructed the Commerce Department to draft an emergency ban, but it was shelved due to easing relations with China. The FCC later took over and implemented bans targeting drones and routers in December last year and March this year, respectively.
