U.S. Again Has the Intention to Halt China's Nuclear Power Development! Media: U.S. Suspends Export License for China's Nuclear Power Plant Products

On June 6, Reuters cited four sources as saying that the U.S. has recently suspended the licenses for nuclear equipment suppliers to sell products to China's nuclear power plants.

The report stated that the U.S. Department of Commerce has issued a suspension order to American companies, which will affect the export licenses for components and equipment of nuclear power plants. Two of the sources said that this suspension of exports would impact the business of several billion dollars worth of nuclear equipment suppliers.

American nuclear equipment suppliers include Westinghouse Electric (Westinghouse) and Emerson. Westinghouse's technology is applied in more than 400 nuclear reactors worldwide, while Emerson provides measurement and other tools for the nuclear industry. Neither company has responded to requests for comment.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Commerce said on May 28 that they are reviewing exports with strategic significance to China. "During the review period, the Department of Commerce has suspended some export licenses or imposed additional licensing requirements."

In mid-May, after high-level representatives from both China and the U.S. held economic and trade talks in Geneva, the U.S. reduced the 145% tariff on Chinese imports to 30%, while China lowered the 125% tariff it imposed on American goods to 10%. Both sides agreed to pause their tariff war and establish mechanisms to continue consultations on economic and trade relations.

Trump announced on social media on June 5 that Treasury Secretary Besten, Commerce Secretary Rutnik, and Trade Representative Griller will hold talks with their Chinese counterparts in London next Monday (the 9th), but provided no further details.
