China almost dominates every global market, but there is one exception—arms exports. The outbreak of warfare in the Middle East for the second time within less than a year has once again drawn international attention to the prospects of China's arms exports. However, despite its products being known for advanced technology and low prices, China still struggles to break into mainstream markets beyond its already concentrated existing customer base. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, after decades of investment, China has become one of the top five global military equipment exporters. Yet, having not experienced large-scale warfare in nearly half a century, China’s weapons have rarely been tested in real combat scenarios, which explains why China’s share in global arms exports has increased only marginally.
