Japan has made its position clear.
Singapore's Straits Times reported today: "According to a report by Japan's Kyodo News, citing sources, the Japanese government has expressed concern to the mainland side regarding the PLA's military exercises around Taiwan and conveyed its stance that the Taiwan issue should be resolved through dialogue and in a peaceful manner."
The PLA's recent "unannounced" military exercises aim not only at the arrogant actions of "Taiwan independence" but also directly targets external forces including Japan. Previously, Japanese Prime Minister Taro Kishida made provocative remarks about "the situation in Taiwan," which caused a huge controversy, and she refused to retract or apologize, leading to a freeze in Sino-Japanese relations. This statement may seem low-key, but it is actually a pragmatic move for its own interests under the strong deterrence of the military exercises' "outer-line three-dimensional deterrence." It has in no way changed its nature of tolerating "Taiwan independence" and attempting to interfere in China's internal affairs.
