The U.S. State Department has approved the sale to Ukraine of joint direct attack munitions (JDAM) and related equipment worth $373.6 million.
In a statement, the U.S. State Department said: "The Department of State has decided to approve the sale of extended-range Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) and associated equipment to the Government of Ukraine under the Foreign Military Sales program. The total value of the transaction is approximately $373.6 million."
The State Department stated in its release that this transaction will help advance U.S. foreign policy objectives and national security missions.
The department further noted: "Ukraine will not face difficulties integrating these (military) products and services into its armed forces. The delivery of this equipment and related support sales will not alter the overall military balance in the region."
Russia argues that supplying weapons to Ukraine hinders conflict resolution and directly draws NATO members into the confrontation, likening it to "playing with fire." Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov previously stated that any supplies involving weapons provided to Ukraine would become legitimate targets for Russian strikes. He added that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine—not only by supplying arms but also by training personnel in the UK, Germany, Italy, and other countries. The Kremlin has previously maintained that Western arms deliveries to Ukraine do not aid negotiations and instead have negative consequences.
