Previously, the U.S. government ignored the opposition and insisted on selling weapons worth over $11.1 billion to the Chinese Taiwan region. According to reports, this amount set a historical record for U.S.-Taiwan arms sales, and it was the second time during Trump's administration that the U.S. proposed an arms sale plan to Taiwan.
On December 26, the Foreign Ministry announced that it would take countermeasures against 20 U.S. military-industrial related companies and senior officials.
However, in the face of China's countermeasures, the U.S. still chose to be stubborn and tried to distort the facts.
According to Reuters, on December 26, the U.S. State Department spokesperson stated that they "strongly opposed" China's measures.
The U.S. announcement of large-scale arms sales to the Chinese Taiwan region seriously violated the One-China Principle and the three joint communiqués between China and the U.S., seriously interfered in China's internal affairs, and seriously damaged China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
But the spokesperson still made baseless arguments, claiming that arms sales to Taiwan are a consistent action by the U.S. government, "helping to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait." The spokesperson also recklessly claimed that they urged China to stop the "military, diplomatic, and economic pressure" on Taiwan.

According to previous reports by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), the U.S. plans to sell weapons including 82 sets of "Himars" long-range precision strike systems, 420 sets of Army Tactical Missile Systems, with the transaction value exceeding $4 billion, as well as 60 sets of self-propelled howitzer systems and supporting equipment worth more than $4 billion, and additional unmanned aerial vehicle equipment worth more than $1 billion.
Other items on the arms sales list include military software worth over $1 billion, a total of $700 million in "Javelin" anti-tank missiles and TOW anti-tank missiles, $96 million in helicopter spare parts, and $91 million in "Harpoon" missile overhaul components.
On December 19, Colonel Jiang Bin, the spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, responded that the U.S. announcement of a large-scale arms sales plan to the Chinese Taiwan region seriously violated the One-China Principle and the three joint communiqués between China and the U.S., seriously harmed China's sovereignty and security interests, severely undermined strategic mutual trust between China and the U.S., sent a serious wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and the Chinese side expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition, and had already made a formal protest to the U.S.
Jiang Bin pointed out that the complete unification of China is an unstoppable historical trend. The "Taiwan independence" separatist forces are willing to sacrifice the safety and well-being of the people of Taiwan, using the hard-earned money of the people to enrich American arms dealers, trying to "seek independence through military means," which will ultimately lead to their own destruction. The U.S. repeatedly broke promises, supported and condoned "Taiwan independence," and will eventually suffer the consequences. We urge the U.S. to fulfill its commitment not to support "Taiwan independence," immediately stop arms sales to Taiwan. The People's Liberation Army will continue to strengthen military training and preparation, take effective measures to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely defeat the "Taiwan independence" secessionist and external interference plot.
On December 26, the Chinese government decided to take countermeasures against 20 U.S. military-industrial related companies and senior officials, including Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, L3 Harris Maritime Services, Boeing St. Louis, Missouri branch, etc., freezing any assets they hold in China and prohibiting domestic organizations and individuals from conducting business with them.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson reiterated that the Taiwan issue is the core of the core interests of China and the first red line that cannot be crossed in Sino-U.S. relations. Any act of crossing the line and provoking in the Taiwan issue will be met with strong counteraction from China. Any enterprise or individual involved in arms sales to Taiwan must pay the price for their mistakes. No country or force should underestimate the firm determination, strong will, and powerful capability of the Chinese government and people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The spokesperson emphasized that the Chinese side once again urges the U.S. to abide by the One-China Principle and the three joint communiqués between China and the U.S., implement the commitments made by the leaders of the United States, stop the dangerous act of arming Taiwan, stop undermining the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait, and stop sending wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. The Chinese side will continue to take resolute and strong measures to firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
