According to the People's Daily, on September 15, Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked that recently, the US has demanded that G7 and NATO member states collectively impose additional tariffs on China, citing the import of Russian oil into China, and urged China to play a role in ending the Ukraine-Russia conflict. What is China's comment on this?

Lin Jian stated that China's normal trade and energy cooperation with countries including Russia is proper and legitimate, and there is no problem with it. The US approach is a typical example of unilateral bullying and economic coercion, seriously undermining international trade rules and threatening the security and stability of the global supply chain.

"The facts have shown that coercion and pressure are not popular and cannot solve the problem," Lin Jian pointed out. China's position on the Ukraine crisis has always been consistent and clear, and dialogue and negotiation are the only feasible way to resolve the Ukraine crisis. From the very first day the crisis broke out, China has maintained an objective and fair position and consistently advocated for peace talks. China firmly opposes some parties frequently referring to China, and firmly opposes imposing illegal unilateral sanctions and extraterritorial jurisdiction on China.

"If China's legitimate rights and interests are damaged, China will resolutely counteract and firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests," Lin Jian said.

On the 13th, US President Trump posted on his self-created social media platform "Truth Social," urging NATO members to stop purchasing Russian oil and impose significant sanctions on Russia. He also demanded that NATO impose tariffs as high as 100% on China, claiming that this would help end the Ukraine war, arguing that China has "influence" over Russia.

The Financial Times previously reported that EU officials are aware that due to the impact on their own economies and possible Chinese countermeasures, it is extremely difficult to impose such high tariffs on China and India, two important trading partners.
