Just forced the EU to sign a trade agreement, Trump is now threatening: ready to impose 100% tariffs
Trump bullying the EU—that's truly "effortless."
Although the EU has already signed a trade agreement with the United States, which European left-wing media angrily denounced as "bowing to Trump," Trump seems to believe there's still more profit to be extracted from the EU.
On the 27th, Trump threatened on social media that if "many European countries" are discussing imposing digital services taxes on American companies, those countries will face 100% tariffs.
According to a report released by the EU last year, if a 5% digital services tax were implemented across the EU, the bloc could generate approximately €37.5 billion in revenue by 2026.
Specifically, France, Spain, and Italy have already imposed digital services taxes on large companies operating within their territories, and the UK—now outside the EU—has done so as well. According to The Guardian, from 2024 to 2025, the digital services tax brought over £800 million in revenue to the UK.
Therefore, despite the EU declaring it reserves the right to respond after Trump’s threat, considering the EU’s past so-called "responses"—a brief show of defiance followed immediately by signing a "capitulation agreement" with the U.S.—if Trump truly proceeds to impose tariffs on the EU’s digital services taxes, the EU is likely to quickly cave again.
