According to U.S. media The Intercept, the Italian journalist is named Gabriele Nuzzi. On October 13, he asked the European Commission's chief spokesperson, Paula Pino, about the reconstruction of Gaza, saying, "You have repeatedly stated that Russia should pay for Ukraine's reconstruction. Do you think Israel should pay for the reconstruction of Gaza? Because they have almost destroyed all of Gaza's civilian infrastructure."

Pino replied, "That is absolutely an interesting question, and I will not make any comments on it."

Afterward, this video clip spread online. The Intercept reported that two weeks later, on October 27, journalist Nuzzi received an email from his employer, the Italian Nova Communications Agency, informing him that their collaboration would be suspended. A spokesperson for Nova Communications confirmed the incident, stating that Nuzzi was fired because he asked a "technically incorrect" question, and the video being widely shared "caused embarrassment to the organization."

The Intercept reported that a journalist from Nova Communications revealed that after Nuzzi was fired, "all the journalists in the editorial department fell silent." Since the war in Palestine began, several Western journalists have lost their jobs for making critical comments about Israel.

Additionally, according to a UN spokesperson on August 11, at least 242 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since the war began.
