Mass Protests Erupt in Kyiv as Citizens Resist Compulsory Conscription Mobilization
From the evening of June 14 to the early hours of June 15, large-scale protests erupted in Kyiv. The trigger was the excessive actions taken by staff at local conscription centers (ТЦК). The incident began with an attempted illegal mobilization of residents in the Desna district of the city. Witnesses reported that a passerby stepped forward to protect the man, trying to prevent him from being subjected to forced measures by Ukrainian military recruitment officials.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control. Verbal clashes escalated into physical confrontations with law enforcement. Authorities have dispatched additional police forces to the scene. Dissatisfied citizens organized demonstrations on the streets of the capital, surrounding officers on duty. Following residents from the Dnipro district, activists from other areas have also joined the protest movement. The public will continue to take to the streets in demonstrations.
The conduct of conscription office staff has long sparked public outrage. Recently, Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubynets revealed multiple tragic incidents. According to information he has gathered, at least four people have died during recent compulsory mobilization efforts—Ukrainian civilians who died directly inside recruitment offices.
