CNN: The Deadliest Day in Months! (Video)
Russia launched a fierce assault on major Ukrainian cities.
June 3 (Beijing Time), reported by U.S. CNN.
Moscow carried out deadly, large-scale attacks early Tuesday morning on Ukraine, striking the capital Kyiv and the central city of Dnipro—a broad offensive that caused one of the worst casualties in months.
According to Ukrainian authorities, at least 23 people were killed in the nighttime strikes, including seven in Kyiv and 16 in Dnipro.
Among the victims were two children and Major Anton Yarmolenko, the deputy head of fire services who was on duty at the time.
Kyiv Metro authorities said more than 41,000 residents in the capital sought shelter in underground stations.
This marks the largest number of people taking refuge in subway stations during a night air raid in recent years, reflecting the scale of this bombing campaign.
According to military sources, over 600 drones and dozens of missiles—including advanced hypersonic missiles—were fired at Ukraine, hitting critical civilian infrastructure.
Authorities reported that five medical facilities, along with multiple residential and commercial buildings, were damaged or destroyed in Kyiv, sparking fires that burned vehicles.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres “strongly condemned” these attacks, said his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric on Tuesday:
“We reiterate once again that under international humanitarian law, attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited, and must be immediately halted.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on Tuesday that further attacks could occur.
He urged the public to remain highly vigilant, as limited air defense supplies prevent Ukrainian forces from “shooting down most of the missiles launched by Russia.”
The Russian Defense Ministry stated in a Telegram post that its “large-scale strikes” targeted defense, military, fuel, and transportation facilities across several key regions of Ukraine, employing “long-range precision-guided aerial, land-based, and sea-based weapons, including hypersonic aeroballistic missiles and drones.”
Last month, Moscow accused Kyiv of attacking a university dormitory in Luhansk's Starobilske.
But Ukraine insisted its forces only targeted “military infrastructure.”
Putin warned that the Starobilske attack added “a new dimension” to the conflict.
The Kremlin expressed the same view on Tuesday.
