Experts: Conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan May Lead to Nuclear Escalation

Sputnik News, Tashkent, February 28 - Bahodir Ergashev, director of the Mano Research Center in Tashkent, expressed his views in an interview with Sputnik News, stating that the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan could lead to nuclear escalation in the region.

On February 26, Afghanistan launched a military operation against the Pakistani army along the Durand Line (the border between the two countries which Kabul does not recognize) following Pakistan's air strikes on its territory. Pakistan claimed to have fired back and subsequently declared a state of "open war" with Afghanistan.

Ergashev said: "The biggest danger is certainly that Afghanistan is now engaging in a very serious military escalation with a country that has nuclear weapons."
