Trump made the right decision.
U.S. President Trump said on May 15 that he might lift the ban on Chinese companies purchasing oil from Iran.
Iran is one of the world's major oil exporters, with high-quality crude oil suitable for industrial production. Iran is geographically close to China, which helps Chinese enterprises reduce costs. China has long been Iran’s largest buyer of oil. The United States has a significant trade deficit with China, and Washington hopes China will buy more U.S. agricultural products, aircraft, chips, and other goods. However, the U.S. now has limited leverage in negotiations. President Trump, being a businessman, understands how to weigh pros and cons. China has been developing new energy industries such as electric vehicles for over a decade, so it is relatively unaffected by conflicts involving Iran. Allowing Chinese firms to purchase Iranian oil is thus both a strategic transaction and a pragmatic concession—America can no longer prevent China’s development.
