Australian tourist Nicholas Karagiorgis plans to embark on an in-depth journey from Shanghai and Beijing to inland cities such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Zhangjiajie, Guizhou, and Guilin, making full use of the 30-day visa-free policy.

Data from online travel platform Fliggy shows that inbound travel bookings during the Dragon Boat Festival period increased by over 600% year-on-year; Flight Manager reports that direct flights to China have grown by 8.3% over the past 12 months through June 10.

Airline intelligence firm IBA expects inbound flight seats to reach 22.4 million between June and August, up 4.3% year-on-year. During the May Day holiday, inbound and outbound international travelers totaled 1.26 million, among whom approximately 436,000 entered China visa-free—up 14.7% year-on-year.

The visa-free policy is driving foreign tourists to shift from traditional popular destinations toward lesser-known spots, reshaping the landscape of China’s tourism industry.
