Russian Foreign Minister: Japan Must Not Become a Permanent Member of the Security Council

According to Kyodo News, on September 27: On the 26th, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov delivered a speech during the United Nations General Assembly's reform discussion, stating: "Japan must not be allowed to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council."

During his general debate speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on the 26th, Lavrov addressed Japan and Germany, saying: "Both countries are seeking permanent membership in the Security Council. At present, Japan and Germany are committed to rearming, making it impossible to grant them additional seats."

He further expressed support for Brazil and India joining as permanent members.

In parallel, a Chinese representative opposed unilateral military actions that violate the UN Charter and bypass Security Council approval: "The sovereignty and security of Middle Eastern countries, including those in the Gulf region, must be respected."
