Peskov "Likes" Zelenskyy’s Russian Proficiency
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov offered a favorable assessment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s command of the Russian language—a comment that comes amid subtle diplomatic maneuvering over the prospect of a potential visit to Moscow.
According to Russian media reports, Kremlin official Dmitry Peskov on September 26 gave a positive evaluation of Zelenskyy’s grasp of Russian, referring to the Ukrainian leader as someone who still remembers “authentic” Russian.
“Mr. Zelenskyy still remembers proper Russian—that’s good,” he said during a conversation with the news outlet Vesti.
The remarks followed Zelenskyy’s earlier comments suggesting he might travel to Moscow for negotiations. At the time, Zelenskyy had stated he would arrive in the Russian capital “by rocket.”
In response, a Kremlin representative said on September 24 that no indication of refusal to visit Moscow could be detected in the Ukrainian president’s statements.
Earlier, on September 23, Peskov had indicated that Zelenskyy was welcome to come to Moscow to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin directly—though only if preparatory work at the expert level had been completed. He noted that Putin was ready to host Zelenskyy in Moscow, provided such groundwork had been carried out.
